Finding the right retirement home is something Chris and I take very personally.

At Crooked Star Bulldogges, our dogs are part of our lives long before they ever become part of someone else's family. When the time comes for one of our breeding dogs to retire, our responsibility to that dog does not end.

Some remain here with us. Others may be happier in a home where they can enjoy more individual attention and settle into life as someone's companion. When we decide that a retirement home is the right choice, finding the right family matters far more to us than simply finding a home.

We know these dogs. We know their personalities, their routines, what they enjoy and the kind of environment where we believe they will be happiest. We use that knowledge to help determine whether a potential home is truly a good fit.

Retirement is not an afterthought at Crooked Star. It is part of the commitment we make to our dogs from the beginning.

Retirement doesn't mean their place in the Crooked Star family ends.

One of the biggest misconceptions about retired breeding dogs is that they are no longer wanted or valued. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Many of these dogs are among the very best dogs we have ever owned. Retiring them can be emotional for us because they have been such an important part of our lives and our breeding program.

Retirement is not about a dog losing value. It is about allowing them to enjoy a different pace of life where they can receive even more one-on-one attention as cherished family companions.

Some spend their retirement curled up on the couch, traveling with their families, or simply enjoying the everyday life that comes with being someone's dog.
