Preparation Before the Puppies Arrive
Successful whelping begins before labor starts. Having the right environment, supplies and plan in place makes it easier to respond when a dam begins delivering. We help owners prepare for the practical realities of whelping and the demanding neonatal period that follows.
Pre-Whelping Planning
Good preparation includes understanding what to expect, having appropriate supplies ready and creating a safe, controlled environment for the dam and her puppies. We help owners prepare before labor begins.
Labor & Delivery Support
Whelping requires observation, patience and the ability to recognize when something is progressing normally and when additional help may be needed. Our support is grounded in years of hands-on experience with our own breeding program.
Neonatal Observation
Newborn puppies can change quickly. Weight, nursing, temperature, activity and overall condition all provide useful information. Close observation during the first days helps identify puppies that may need additional attention.
Individual Puppy Support
Some puppies require more attention than their littermates. Depending on the situation, that may include supplemental feeding, additional monitoring or more intensive hands-on management during the neonatal period.
The First Days Can Be Demanding
Whelping does not end when the last puppy is born. The early neonatal period can require frequent monitoring of both the dam and her litter, particularly when puppies are small, slow to nurse or simply need extra attention.
Our approach is practical and individualized. We pay attention to what the dam and puppies are showing us rather than assuming every litter will follow the same pattern.
